Have you noticed that baby names are getting more and more obscure, these days? You only have to go to the supermarket or walk past a school at home time to hear the bizarre monikers called out by parents.Where is this competitive naming going to end?
Noticing this bizarre trend, parenting group, Bounty Parenting Club, conducted a survey, which revealed one in three parents claim their child has an unusual name.
However, The poll, of more than 3000 parents, found more than one in 10 parents regretted their decision to veer from the norm and that the same number of children, perhaps unsurprisingly, did not like their name with a growing number asking for it to be changed.
Three quarters of people who had given their child a traditional name believed more alternative parents were paving the way for their child to be bullied. They added that those who had chosen more wacky names were selfish and not thinking of their child.
The parenting group went on to compile "The Most Unusual Names of the Decade", after trawling through millions of recorded names given to newborns over the past decade.
Celebrities, including footballers such as Rooney, were found to be an influence. Hippy names were also popular such as Stone, Gift, Echo and Heaven.

A family with several daughters have named every one after cars, Toyota for example. No doubt they felt they were being original, but their daughters must live with them for the rest of their lives, long after the cars have been forgotten.

I know a Skye, the name has been around for a long time and is almost traditional. The unfortunate part is that her surname is Green when you'd expect Blue.

River, Storm and Sky are hardly unusual these days! They are nature names, which go back hundreds of years.
I think some people just lack imagination. Of course there is a line between unusual and just plain ridiculous that shouldn't be crossed, but growing up as one of 5 Kellys in a class at school i felt a complete lack of individuality, and i think that is more cruel than giving my children names that are more uncommon. We thought carefully about bullying implications and how the names would age before deciding on our children's names, and we have had nothing but positive comments about them. They all love them too.
Btw, alot of cars were named after people to begin with (Porsche and Mercedes for example).

With all the foreign names around these days, you would have thought the adults in society would get over being so anally retentive about traditional names. I named my children with names i liked and that suited them. I think we should give our children a little more credit than to be bullying a child because of a name in the current melting pot that is our society. Some of us however, maybe need to focus on trying to teach our children not to bully others for any reason rather than blaming parents for giving unusual names. What next - blame the parents for producing a mixed race child because he is bullied for being so?

Peter Andre/Katie Price's daughter Princess Tiaamii has got to be up there. They actually thought they were being clever merging their mothers' names Thea & Amy. And what's her nickname? Pringles

If you think that's funny I had a friend called Tina. Quite normal you'd think but she fell in love with someone who's surname was Salmon. I kid you not!
